Through nearly 30 events in the Vivid Ideas program, presented over the course of the festival’s 23 nights, we invited our audience to dream, unpacking the very many meanings and interpretations of the festival’s creative direction.We hosted First Nations storytelling around a campfire at the culturally-rich Barangaroo Reserve, presented an exhibition showcasing the future of extended and virtual reality, and staged immersive screenings of cult horror films atop the old Sydney Burial Ground. We welcomed an array of global storytellers to our stage, offering insights and inspiration from the inimitable Martha Stewart, sleep scientist Matthew Walker, mountaineering filmmaker Jimmy Chin, and comedy legends Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally. We kept the doors open late at Sydney’s biggest cultural institutions. And we commissioned major new works, from the breathtaking physical theatre of Legs On The Wall to a significant new film by speculative architect Liam Young.&nbsp; Curator, Vivid Ideas: Mitchell &amp; Design returned to Carriageworks as part of Vivid Sydney 2023, from 31st May through 2nd June 2023. In its 21st year, Semi Permanent brought together the creative industries from across Asia Pacific for three full days of inspiring keynote talks, panel discussions, workshops, exhibitions, demonstrations, installations, and more. The breadth of the program was reflective of creative practice in 2023, including graphic, product, spatial and motion design, filmmaking, photography, illustration, publishing, writing, advertising, animation, Web3, and visual data. Many of the talks and programs delved into important and timely cultural subject matter, including futurism, feminism, First Nations culture, accessibility, sustainability, and diversity, equity and inclusion. Speakers include disability design advocate Sinead Burke (Dublin), creative director Bijan Berahimi of Fisk Studio (Portland), artist and designer Evi O. (Sydney), Vogue India’s head of editorial content Megha Kapoor (Mumbai), Pulitzer Prize-winning data journalist Mona Chalabi (New York), and speculative architect and filmmaker Liam Young (Los Angeles).&nbsp; The Semi Permanent Art &amp; Design Fair, powered by Squarespace, comprised over 30 vendors from across Australia and New Zealand, including Art Ink, Astrophe, BTWNLNS, Formist, Institute of Modern Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, Journals, Perimeter Books, Powerhouse Publishing, Tart Magazine, and Vault.&nbsp; The festival’s partners included Destination New South Wales, Genesis Motors, Future Super, Squarespace, Western Sydney University, July Luggage, SAE Creative Institute, and Heaps Normal.&nbsp; In my role as Executive Creative Director, I oversaw all aspects of contemporary culture and thought provoking ideas, the physical experience reimagined 15+ hotel rooms, the bar, rooftop, cinema, atrium and lobby as places to explore new ideas, products and stories.This event format allowed us to manage audiences in a controlled environment including guest capacity flow, small group experiences and safe social distancing with Australia’s success in managing covid reinforcing confidence in the physical event.The digital microsite brought the tactile experience to a global audience and those unable to attend in-person, through a fully-bespoke microsite on highsnobiety.com, replicating the physical hotel blueprint online featuring exclusive content including artist interviews and image galleries from the hotel talent and creatives.Combining elements from both the Semi Permanent and Highsnobiety brands, we designed and created a bespoke brand identity for the experience, with creative direction across event collateral, uniforms, way-finding, guest experience, social and digital assets, and more.Together with our collaborators, Polestar, RIMOWA and Glenfiddich; leaders in mobility, technology and beverage, we launched products and global innovations to a discerning audience of Cultural Pioneers who don’t just buy in to product, but invest in philosophies, and proliferate engaging ideas down to their peers and followers.The experience featured curated installations and screenings by Gia Coppola, Flume and Jonathan Zawada’s ‘Tiddalik’, Haydenshapes, Daniel Arsham and Chris Stamp’s ‘Wave Relic’, Joji’s ‘The Extravaganza’, P.A.M’s ‘Postive Messages’ and more, and Future Classic DJs providing entertainment on the launch party night.A Future Talks Program, hosted by acclaimed journalist and researcher Noelle Faulkner, 2022 Creativity and design festival Semi Permanent returned to its hometown of Sydney in May 2022 following a two-year pandemic hiatus, celebrating two decades since its launch. Taking place at arts precinct Carriageworks as part of Vivid Sydney, Semi Permanent presented its biggest, most dynamic program to date, coupled with an enhanced visitor experience of workshops, panel discussions, performances and installations. In my role as Global Creative Director, I oversaw all aspects of the festival, including talent curation, programming, visual identity, marketing, ticketing and production.&nbsp; The talent lineup included musician and creative director Ta-ku, furniture and textile designer Jonathan Saunders, furniture and object designer Sabine Marcelis, architect Paul Cournet, Flamingo Estate founder Richard Christiansen, satirical news publication The Betoota Advocate, Les Benjamins creative directors Bunyamin and Lamia Aydin, photojournalist Mridula Amin, and visual artist Serwah Attafuah.&nbsp;
